Bansko gets ready for the 2026/27 ski season

Snow, slopes and Pirin peaks: winter in Bulgaria is almost here.
Bansko’s new ski season is projected to open on 12 December 2026 and run until 11 April 2027. Final dates always depend on the weather, so check the resort’s official channels before you book.
Set at the foot of the Pirin Mountains, Bansko is Bulgaria’s best-known winter resort. It has the country’s best snow record and longest ski season, and the most modern ski facilities in Bulgaria after multi-million-euro investment.
Why Bansko works for almost everyone:
- Skiing from 990 m at the base up to 2,560 m at the summit, a vertical drop of 1,570 m.
- 14 lifts serving two main ski areas, Chalin Valog and Shilgarnika.
- Slopes best suited to beginners and intermediates, with nursery areas at the top of the gondola.
- Just 160 km from Sofia Airport.
Off the slopes, the old town is half the reason to come. Stone streets, a lively square and traditional taverns serve local food and wine after a cold day on the mountain.
The opening weekend is usually a celebration in its own right. Last season, ski legends Giorgio Rocca and Marc Girardelli joined locals for the launch, with a mass descent by young skiers and local dish tastings in the town square.
