Three Films with Bulgarian Connections Shortlisted for the European Film Awards

Bulgarian cinema and film production have received encouraging international attention, with three films involving Bulgarian partners shortlisted for the 2027 European Film Awards.
The shortlist, reported by Radio Bulgaria on 15 October 2026, features productions from across Europe and highlights the collaborative nature of contemporary filmmaking.
The selected films are Black Money for White Nights, Brace Your Heart and The Dreamed Adventure.
Three Films, International Collaborations
Black Money for White Nights is a Greek-Bulgarian co-production directed by Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov.
Brace Your Heart, directed by Amanda Kernell, is a co-production involving Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Bulgaria and Iceland.
The Dreamed Adventure, directed by Valeska Grisebach, brings together production partners from Germany, France, Bulgaria and Austria.
Their inclusion demonstrates the variety of international projects in which Bulgarian film professionals and production companies participate.
How European Co-Productions Work
Film production increasingly crosses national borders. Different countries can contribute financing, production services, creative talent and technical expertise.
These partnerships give filmmakers opportunities to work across cultures and help projects reach audiences in multiple markets.
For Bulgaria, involvement in international productions can create professional opportunities for local film crews and production businesses while strengthening connections with the wider European film industry.
The Road to the 2027 Awards
The European Film Academy selected 68 feature films from 40 countries for this year’s shortlist.
According to Radio Bulgaria, the Academy’s 5,700 members are due to watch the selected films and vote on the final nominations. The European Film Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in Athens on 16 January 2027.
Being shortlisted is not the same as receiving a final nomination or winning an award, but it represents an important stage of recognition.
Bulgaria’s Place in European Cinema
The three shortlisted productions provide a positive opportunity to highlight Bulgaria’s participation in European filmmaking.
International co-productions help connect creative communities, share expertise and bring different perspectives to the screen.
As the awards process continues, Bulgarian film professionals and cinema enthusiasts have reason to follow these productions with interest.
