Bulgaria Opens a Fast Lane for Tourism Investment

Bulgaria has everything a traveller could want: golden Black Sea beaches, mountain ski resorts, ancient towns, mineral springs and some of the best food in the Balkans. Now the country is making it easier to invest in all of it.
What’s new
On 12 October 2026, Bulgaria announced plans to establish a fast-track mechanism for tourism investment projects. The aim is simple: cut the time and paperwork between a good idea and a finished hotel, attraction or visitor centre.
For investors, that means fewer delays. For local communities, it means jobs and new life in towns that depend on visitors. For travellers, it means better places to stay and more to discover.
Why now is a good moment
Bulgaria joined the eurozone on 1 January 2026, so visitors from across Europe can now travel and spend without changing currency. Since 2025 the country has also been a full member of the Schengen Area, making border crossings smoother than ever.
Add a fast track for new tourism projects, and the picture is clear: Bulgaria is open for business and ready to welcome the world.
Where the opportunities are
- The Black Sea coast: Nesebar, Sozopol, Varna and beyond
- The mountains: Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo for skiing and hiking
- Culture and history: Plovdiv, Veliko Tarnovo and countless monasteries
- Wellness: Velingrad, Sandanski and the country’s many spa towns
